The films Ghostbusters, and Gremlins are released.

Sebastian Coe was the first man to win consecutive gold medals at 1500 metres in the Olympic Games.

 

5) Fox News Channel is launched

The first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell, Dolly the sheep, was born.

The summer Olympics were held in Atlanta

 

6) The Phantom of the Opera opens in London

British journalist John McCarthy was kidnapped in Beirut and held for 5 years.
