Sally Ride became the first American woman into space aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger.

Emily Blunt and Mo Farah were born in this year.

 

6) Liverpool won their 18th Football :League title with Aston Villa as runners-up.

The Community Charge, otherwise known as the Poll Tax was introduced sparking widespread rioting in many parts of the UK.

The FIFA World Cup was won by West Germany when they defeated Argentina 1-0 in Rome.
