Iraq invaded Kuwait leading to the Gulf War.

5) Chariots of Fire won the Best Picture Oscar as well as three other oscars.

The Argentine warship, The General Belgrano’ is sunk by a British submarine.

Canada gained full political independence from the United Kingdom.

 

6) Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term as President of the USA

The border between Gibraltar and Spain opened for the first time since being closed by Franco in 1969.

The first episode of Eastenders was broadcast on BBC One.
